Tuacahn Amphitheater in St. George

Utah's great state and national parks, iconic scenery, and world-class skiing are all popular reasons to visit the state. However, it's not just the scenery that makes Utah so unique. For us indoorsy types, arts can be a huge and important part of any trip or vacation. Thankfully, the theater scene is alive and well in Utah as well.

If you're looking to experience the theater scene during your visit to Utah, there are hundreds of great theaters you can visit. But if you're looking for something a little different - not just your run-of-the-mill theater experience - there are three theaters in particular you'll want to make sure to add to your travel itinerary.

Pickleville Playhouse - Garden City

Pickleville Playhouse has been dishing up laughter to families for forty years. Located in the scenic Bear Lake area, this quaint little playhouse is best known for their hilarious "Juanito Bandito" shows. In addition to Bandito, Pickleville does at least one musical production each year. Most of their shows run during the summer, since it's peak tourist season around Bear Lake.

This year, Pickleville will be doing Shrek the Musical and Love and Death vs. El Bandito. If you find yourself in the area, book an evening and take your whole family to enjoy this small town gem.

Hale Centre Theatre - West Valley City

Located just south of Salt Lake, the Hale Centre Theatre takes theater in the round to a whole new level. Every production I've ever seen here is beautifully designed, choreographed, and blocked to maximize the unique space. The stage is a wonder of theater technology, and can rise two levels, sink, add, divide, spin, and probably beat you at chess. They've even flooded it with water for shows like Big River.

The best thing about the theater is that because of the round design, there is truly not a bad seat in the house. Plus, the new and improved Hale Theatre in Sandy will be finished by the end of this year, and promises an even better experience. Read more about the project.

While we wait for the new venue, make sure to check out their 2017 line-up, which includes Forever Plaid, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

Tuacahn - St. George

Southern Utah has perfect weather about 9 months out of the year. Even in the winter, it's still much sunnier than the rest of the state. This weather, combined with the beautiful red rocks are what make the magic of Tuacahn possible.

This outdoor amphitheater features state-of-the-art sound equipment, superbly talented actors, and the beautiful scenery of Southern Utah. Plus, you get to enjoy the great weather and beautifully star-filled sky while watching extremely well-done theater performances. What's not to love?

This year you can catch Newsies, Shrek, and Mamma Mia at this one-of-a-kind venue. This is definitely a theater you don't want to miss while you're in Utah!
