Dear Evan Hansen tickets

I'm going to New York!

Every theater junkie knows that New York is the ultimate theater destination, and the more extreme of us try to make a pilgrimage to the Great White Way as often as possible. So in a few weeks, I'm headed there to take in the city and see a few shows.

The best part? I already have tickets to see Dear Evan Hansen! If you read my post about the cast album, you probably know that I'm mildly obsessed with this show. So when the opportunity arose to grab some tickets, I did it in a heartbeat.

But now the tricky part is, what other show should I see? I have one other free evening in NYC and of course I'm dying to see anything and everything. So I figured it would be fun to poll my readers. I'll tell you about four of the shows I'm most excited to see, and you can help me pick which one! Ready? Go!

Sunset Boulevard

Glenn Close in Sunset Boulevard

Winner of the 1995 Tony for Best Musical, this show with music by Andrew Lloyd Webber is based off of the 1950 film of the same name. Glenn Close stared in the original Broadway production and now she's back and more beautiful than ever. This show is only playing through May, so if I'm ever going to get a chance to watch Glenn work her magic, this is the time. Listen to Glenn be absolute magic.

Waitress

Waitress Jessie Mueller

This show is also based on a film of the same name, but the music is by Sara Bareilles. It opened last April and was nominated for several Tonys (unfortunately it didn't win any thanks to a little show called Hamilton). It was just confirmed this past week that Sara herself will be taking up the lead role later this spring, but unfortunately after my trip. You can listen to Sara herself sing one of my favorite songs to get a feel for the show.

Come From Away

This is a brand new musical that just started previews today and I've been fairly intrigued by. It tells the story of how 38 planes carrying thousands of people from across the globe were diverted to Gander, Newfoundland on September 11, 2001. This looks like another strong contender for the Tonys this year, so seeing it would definitely be a treat. You can read a detailed synopsis on the show's website.

Sunday in the Park with George

Sunday in the Park

Another revival, SitPwG opens later this week and will be starring my forever-crush Jake Gyllenhaal (silence haters!). The musical was written by the one and only Stephen Sondheim, my all-time musical writing hero. It's actually based on a painting, which is the most interesting "based on" story I've ever heard. The show premiered in 1984 and is back to Broadway for its fourth run.

So what do you think? Which one should I go see? Vote in the poll below and help me make a decision!
